Fix Any Leak that Springs Up

Plumbing Supply Options For Home And Business Owners

Whether you are a plumber or a homeowner that likes to do work yourself, you can find a great plumbing supply source to help keep everything in order. Supplies can be stocked up and you can use them to help you easily take on any issue.

Before you buy anything, you need to know why quality supplies are so important. While you can save money on cheaper items that are not made well, they will not hold up as long as if they were. If you consider that you have to replace weak materials and tools more often than well-made options, it actually costs you more in the long run. That’s not to say that there are not any great products that work well for a low price, it just means to avoid the super cheap options that are known to not hold up for very long.

Be careful when using chemicals that you get from any plumbing supply source. Make very sure that you are buying them from a trusted source. Otherwise, it may turn out that the chemicals are of low quality and won’t work or they may be something you weren’t expecting that could cause damage. In general, it’s better to use a plunger or other methods to try and get a drain cleared naturally instead of trying to do so with caustic chemicals. Make sure you also store dangerous products carefully and that you don’t mix them with one another if you’re not sure of the reaction that could occur.

Are videos available that can teach you how to fix a plumbing issue you’ve never encountered before? Don’t trust anything that you find and make sure that before you use any methods you figure out if they actually work. Either find proof that more than one professional recommends the fix and says it works or at least see if there are comments attached to the video that indicates it’s a good solution. Sometimes people put things online that simply don’t work or that can cause damage, so make sure you are cautious about what you trust.

Ordering online is a great way to get products quickly, but you have to make sure they’re coming from a place that can ship them with speed in mind. Sometimes, if you order on some sites, you can actually make the order from someone in another country. Places like China are hard to get items from fast in the US, and even though shipping is cheap from there it may mean you won’t get the supplies on time. It’s actually worth the extra money in a lot of cases to get faster shipping from someone nearby, especially if the problem you’re having could keep getting worse.

Sewage is a big issue that you cannot deal with without the right tools and protective gear. You need to find a way to keep your skin from touching any of it and you need some kind of breathing apparatus so you’re not taking any into your lungs. Many problems can arise from sewage that can cause sickness or infections. If you have any open sores do not try working with it and if it’s a big mess then try calling in a water damage company that has the proper training and tools for the job.

Try to remember that just patching up problems can lead to even more. When there is a pinhole leak in a pipe, for instance, that means that it eventually is going to worsen even if you cover it up for a little while. The problem is that there are already problems inside of the pipe that are causing it to have a leak. Over time, it may completely burst but at the very least it will keep developing new leaks. Patches can help while you’re waiting to get supplies, but don’t just leave them on and hope for the best because it generall won’t work that well.

Properties with plumbing systems need to be kept up with. You can’t just let problems get worse, or it will lead to damages. A plumbing supply company is good to know about so you’re aware of where to turn in the event of a problem or emergency.

Five Effective Electrical Supply Safety Tips

More than 1 in 6 construction-related deaths is due to contact with electricity. It is quite clear that a single mistake involving electricity could be fatal. Electricians are however not the only ones at risk. Any person who uses power tools, ladders, or extension cords should always be cautious, remain diligent, and always use the proper safety equipment to prevent electrical supply hazards including:

  • Shocks
  • Burns
  • Explosion
  • Fire
  • Electrocution

Proper attention to these areas helps in mitigating the dangers that electricity poses. Here are some 5 excellent ways to prevent these electrical supply hazards.

1. Personal Protection Equipment

Electricians working on hot circuits need to always use insulated tools and properly rated safety gear to protect against arc flashes and direct contact. The gear includes insulated gloves free of embedded foreign materials, friction or chemical wear, as well as tears.

Arc flash protection requires protection from the head to the toe starting with Class B hardhats that protect against high-voltage burns and shocks and ending with non-conductive shoes that guard the wearer’s body against completing a dangerous electrical circuit. All safety and fall-protection gear needs to be free of exposed metal parts.

2. Tagout/Lockout

In most instances, electricians will only work around circuits and wiring if the power is off. Since energizing a circuit being worked on can be fatal, electrical workers need to use a stringent tagout/lockout system to avoid careless or accidental activation of the system.

All workers need to respect and understand the process to prevent disasters. All qualified workers control their own personal locks and danger labels to attach to cords, breakers, disconnects, and switches. Avoid tampering with or removing these items and don’t try to power the circuit.

3. Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI)

GFCIs can warn workers of unsafe tools by tripping once a faulty device is plugged in. Use GFCIs always to guard against ground faults, which are the commonest form of electrical shock hazard, along with insulation deterioration, fire, and overheating. Employers need to supply portable units if permanent GFCI outlets are not conveniently available in the work area.

The portable GFCI outlets can be plugged directly into regular, non-GFCI outlets, or use a plug that has a cord attached. When the conditions allow, waterproof models with suitable housings should always be used. Other units simply attach to the extension cords and guard against faults that originate in the cord or in the equipment plugged into it.

4. Lights, Cords, and Tools

Lights and tools, particularly those used with extension cords, pose multiple hazards. It is important that workers only use industrial-grade equipment. Regular extension cords cannot withstand the wear and tear of constant construction use.

Only grounded and 3-wire cords should be used and the ground wire must never be removed to help them fit a 2-wire female plug. Company safety officials and equipment owners should always inspect the cords attached to power tools and the extension cords regularly.

Users should ensure that they check their equipment before each use. Watch out for loose connections, missing or bent pins, and damaged insulation. In case of any problems don’t attempt to repair the tool and don’t use it. Tag it either for repair or for disposal.

5. Conductive Materials

Being aware of the existence and position of electrical hazards along with precautions to take when working around the electrical supply can ensure that no nasty incidents ever happen. When extending metal construction materials from man baskets or scaffolding, adjusting cranes, or moving metal ladders, you should always look up.

When working on the ground you should always look down. Excavation or trenching can easily cause underground power lines to become exposed. Temporary wiring can easily snake underfoot and present tripping and shock hazards. Standing water can make workers highly susceptible to the electrical current.

Watch out for metal pipes, panels, along with other construction materials that are easily energized if proper caution is not observed to ensure that they don’t contact an electrical conductor. If a worker were to touch these hot components, his or her body would complete a potentially deadly circuit.

Final Thoughts

Electrical hazards in a construction site are easily controlled with awareness, training, and precautionary measures. When working with electricity, it is important to have the necessary safety and electrical supplies that you can get from a reputable vendor. Always ensure that workers use the proper safety gear and follow the proper protocols when working with electricity.

10 Easy Tips For Getting Started With Chalk Paint

It seems that all people talk about today is painting their furniture with chalk paint. You might have wanted to give it a go but have no clue about where to begin. You have heard others say that it is quite easy to use but is it actually that easy? The answer is an emphatic ‘Yes’ and here are the ten easy tips for getting started.

1. Find A Furniture Piece

Most people already have a piece in mind when they embark on the painting but if you don’t have you can always buy a cheap one at your local charity shop. You will get amazing prices and will be supporting a worthy cause too.

2. It Is Not Rocket Science

You simply cannot go wrong. Try several different techniques then stick with the one that works best for you. Some people like using paint directly from the tin while other prefer to water it down a bit. Some prefer to use a watered down coat followed by a thick coat while others do the other way round. You have room to play around a bit.

3. Its Consistency Is Thick

Once you open up your tin, give the paint a proper stir. A good stir is important for dislodging the pigment that may have settled at the bottom of the tin. Continue stirring until it resembles the color shown on the tin.

4. Applicators

What will you use to apply the paint with? Here, there is no fixed rules. You can use a regular household sponge, a flat brush, a roller, or even a small pure bristle brush. The pure bristle brush offers the benefit of getting the paint faster on the furniture and has good coverage. A roller gives a smoother finish but requires several coats for the best results.

5. Cleaning & Sanding Furniture?

The question of whether to clean and sand the piece of furniture is entirely up to you. Chalk paint is quite versatile and works perfectly on furniture without sanding or priming.

6. Tape Up

You obviously don’t want to see paint where you don’t want. Use high quality tape to tape up everything that is not to be painted. You can cover large areas using cling film and tape it at the edges. This also applies to furniture fittings such as runners and handles.

7. Decide On The Look

At this juncture, you should start considering the look that you would like to achieve but the two simplest are the modern smooth finish and the classic vintage look.

8. Achieving The Looks

It is easy to achieve the classic look. Just apply a coat of paint by moving your brush in all directions. One coat is enough in most cases and you never have to water down the paint. Apply some soft, clear wax using a brush or lint-free cloth working the wax into the paint and getting rid of the excess as you go.

For a distressed look, remove some of the paint using a medium-grit or fine sandpaper until you achieve your desired finish.

For an amazing antique look use soft, dark wax and work it into soft clear wax and spread. It might be scary in the beginning but you shouldn’t panic. Wax small portions at a time and keep removing excess dark wax using clear wax as you go.

Finish all the looks by ensuring that all parts of the furniture are waxed at least once using lint free cloth. Wax up the following day if you like a soft sheen.

9. Sanding

Sand the surface of your furniture lightly for a smooth finish. Pour some of the paint into a tray and add a very small amount of water. Roller or brush onto the furniture and once you have decent coverage sand lightly using fine grade sandpaper. Next, apply clear wax using a lint-free cloth. Apply the wax in the direction of the grain for a modern finish and remove any excess using a cloth as you go. Buff with a clean cloth once the wax is dry.

10. Storing Brushes

If you take breaks between coats, wrap the roller or brush in cling film to avoid drying out and once you have finished with it, wash it on warm soapy water to clean, rinse, then leave to dry naturally.
